The Area is in the southeastern part of the state on the border with Arizona. The Visitor Center is at the junction of US 93 and Nevada 166, four miles east of Boulder City.
WHEN TO VISIT
Area open year round. Peak visitor month is June. Winter temperatures are 32 to 56 degrees F. Summer temperatures are hot with low humidity, 90 to 108 degrees F.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Lake Mead, formed by Hoover Dam, and Lake Mojave, by Davis Dam, on the Colorado River, comprise the first national recreation area established by an act of Congress.
Part of the Area is in Arizona and adjoins Grand Canyon National Park. Food, supplies, camping, and overnight accommodations are available within the recreation area, as well as in the surrounding communities of Boulder City, Bullhead City, Henderson, and Las Vegas. Do not use the oleander bushes for firewood or roasting sticks, they are poisonous. Do not let pets drink from irrigation ditches. Water skiing in Lake Mead is another of the many activities available.
